In volume I of this survey of the history of surgery (from antiquity to 500 C.E.), Japanese and Chinese medicine are covered (pp. 75-140), with four plates after Willem ten Rhijne’s. The author discusses acupuncture within its historical context, cf. the remarks in Löwendahl vol. 1, p. 259 (0581).
