The essay describes various forms of lanterns in many parts of the world throughout history, among them the Lantern Festival (Shangyuan Festival 上元節 /Yuanxiao Festival 元宵節) celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the the lunisolar year in the Chinese calendar (pp. 27-32) and it’s orgins (pp. 33-36).
