The Dutch philosopher Cornelius Franciscus de Pauw (Cornelis de Pauw/Corneille de Pauw in French; 1739-1799), considered the expert on America (which he never visited), wrote on the origins of ancient peoples. He rejected the (than popular) idea that China had originally been a colony of Ancient Egypt.
