This book contains descriptions of the most important harbours for late nineteenth-century world trade. In the section on China (vol. II, pp. 381-462) information on the northern harbours (Niuzhuang, Tianjin and Zhifu), the Yangzi harbours (Shanghai, Zhenjiang, Nanjing, Wuhu, Jiujiang, Hankou, Yichang and Ningbo), and the southern harbours (Fuzhou, Amoy, Shantou, and Guangzhou) as well as information on Hongkong and Macau.
