Ignace Cotolendi (1630–1662) was sent to Asia as an Apostolic Vicar (together with François Pallu and Pierre Lambert de la Motte). In 1660, he was nominated Bishop of Metellopolis and appointed Apostolic Vicar of Jiangnan. Cotolendi, Pallu and de la Motte left France in 1660 – traveling overland via Persia and India. Cotolendi died near Machilipatnam without reaching China.
The French original was published in 1673.
