This large-format volume contains results of the Second German Turfan Expedition (1904-1905) led by Le Coq, mostly photographs of wall paintings, statues and ancient documents found in the Turfan region at Chotscho [Xoqo] (the ancient city of Gaochang), the Bezeklik Caves, and the Toyuk Caves. The original prints of pictures from the Bezeklik Caves were destroyed during in the Second World War.
In addition, the volume includes pictures of artifacts and ancient documents relating to Manichaeists and Nestorian Christins later found at Chotscho [Xoqo]
