Ferrière Le Vayer (1812-1864) describes the French expedition headed by Marie Melchior Joseph Théodore de Lagrené (1800-1862) to conclude a commercial treaty securing the same privileges as in the Sino-British Treaty of Nanjing [南京]. The Threaty of Whampoa [黄埔] was signed on 24 October 1844 by Lagrené and Qiying [耆英].
